Using Access 2007 with Campaign Enterprise
Attention: This
work around is no longer necessary when Campaign
Enterprise is updated to the latest build. Please
see the revision
history page for the update.
When Microsoft introduced Access 2007 earlier
this year, they also introduced a new database
extension, and apparently a new or updated driver.
They also introduced a problem when trying to
connect Campaign Enterprise to an Access 2007
database.
The new file extension is .accdb which changed
from .mdb. The .accdb file extension does not
appear in the list when trying to browse to the
database. However, it is not just a matter of
displaying and selecting an .accdb file, the driver
making the connection is also different, requiring
an actual fix from the developers. In the meantime,
Campaign Enterprise does work with Access 2007
using an ODBC connection.
Here is how to set up an ODBC Datasource Name
(DSN):
Step 1 – Create a new DSN
- Click Start >
Control Panel > Administrative Tools >
Data Sources (ODBC)
- Select the System
DSN Tab
- Click Add
- Select Microsoft
Access Driver (*.mdb *.accdb)
- Click Finish
to open the setup window
- Enter an easily
identifiable name for the DSN
- Click Select
and browse to the database (the default is the
My Documents folder)
- Click OK
- That is all that
is required for connecting to, and updating
the database. Click OK
Step 2 – Connect to Campaign Enterprise
- Open Campaign
Enterprise and log in
- Edit the campaign
(or database shortcut)
- Select the Datasource
tab
- Select ODBC from
the database type
- Click browse
and find the new DSN
- Select the table,
email address field and id as in a regular Campaign
Enterprise campaign setup
The developers are working diligently to get
the new connection procedures in place to simply
browse to the files again and an update will be
posted just as soon as it is available.
