How to: Use a Suppression List with Campaign Enterprise
Identifying emails that bounce is an important part of ensuring your email lists are clean. The best way to eliminate bad emails is to verify them upon sign up, but there are cases when you may not be able to do that. Utilizing a suppression list can help you when you bring in new addresses to your lists. Using a simple query either during import, or when selecting your list in the datasource page can prevent known bad emails from going out again.

Why You Should Upgrade to Campaign 11
Maybe you have been putting off upgrading your Campaign Enterprise for several years and now find yourself a couple of versions back. There are many good reasons for upgrading from version 8, 9, or 10 aside from the fact that those versions are no longer updated. Here are a few of the things Campaign 11 can do, that the earlier versions cannot.

More on VERPs
One of the biggest complaints about Campaign Enterprise is the fact that you must set up a separate bounce email account for every table or record set to which you are connected. If you have multiple campaigns pointing to the same table, you can configure one of your campaigns to process the bounces. Regardless of which campaign sent the email, that campaign can find the record in the table and update it accordingly.

Tables and Backgrounds in Email Marketing Director
When editing your message in EMD, you may want to change the background color, and the page properties of the email to improve its appearance. While may web developers are moving to div tags and style sheets to modify the look and feel of web pages, they do not always translate well to email, especially for email clients like Outlook and web clients that have their own backgrounds and styles defined.

How Automatic Backups Work in Email Marketing Director and Campaign Enterprise
On rare occasions, the working files for Campaign Enterprise and Email Marketing Director experience problems that cause your program to lock up or work improperly. Each time Campaign Enterprise and Email Marketing Director start successfully, a back up of the working file, the campaign.sto file (and the campaignlists.sto file in EMD) is created and placed in the main program directory. The names of the back up campaign sto files end with bak.

Database Connection Options
Campaign Enterprise is designed to work directly with any ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) compliant database. Examples of ODBC databases include SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, DB2, and most other true relational databases. Campaign also connects directly to MS Access database .mdb or .accdb files. ACT is not a true database, is not ODBC compliant and does not directly interface with Campaign Enterprise.

Managing Unsubscribes with Email Marketing Director
Email Marketing Director helps you comply with CAN-SPAM laws by automatically managing unsubscribe requests. To configure this feature, you need a POP3 or IMAP4 email account for EMD to monitor. The credential for this account is entered in the Settings > Configuration > Bounce/Unsubscribe area, the same account is used for managing both bounces and unsubscribes. In the message, you must have the unsubscribe merge field, {UNSUBSCRIBE "unsubscribe"} where you want the link to appear. The portion inside the quotes can be modified to say whatever you want.

Configuring Campaign Enterprise In Your Network
In order to make the most of the features in Campaign Enterprise, you need to configure it correctly in your network. The click through tracking, opened email tracking, and web based unsubscribe features all require Campaign Enterprise to be associated with a public IP and domain name. Accessing the program remotely from outside your network also requires you to associate campaign with a public facing address.

Indexing Your Database to Improve Performance
As your database grows in size and complexity, it may affect the performance of your email marketing campaigns. Frequently, performance issues appear to some people as a sudden change, causing them to blame the program for the issue, when the problem may be much deeper. One of the best ways to improve database and campaign performance is to index your fields, especially the fed you are using for merging and updating.
