XP Service Pack 2 and Campaign Enterprise
Microsoft Windows recently
released its long anticipated Service Pack 2 for
Windows XP. As users of Campaign Enterprise begin
to update, you will need to make some changes
after the SP 2 installation in order for your
programs to continue to run properly.
Service Pack 2 is for:
- Windows XP Professional and Home
Some of the symptoms you will see if you do not
make these recommended changes are the inability
to log in remotely to the Campaign server. Also
click through and opened email tracking will no
longer function properly, generally returning
an error saying “you are not authorized
to view this page”. The changes occur because
SP 2 automatically installs the windows personal
firewall which must be configured to allow
the Campaign ports to respond.
Symptoms
- Cannot access Campaign Enterprise remotely
- Click through tracking no longer works
- Opened email tracking no longer works
Note: Customers who upgrade their systems to
SP2 are not affected. Outbound requests
across non-standard ports are not automatically
disabled.
Here is how to configure your firewall to work
with Campaign Enterprise.
Solution
Open the firewall manager
- Click Start > Control Panel > Network
Connections
- Right mouse click Local Area Network and chose
Properties from the menu
- Select the Advanced Tab

- Select Settings for the windows firewall

- Select the Exceptions tab
- Click Add Port
Add a Port Exception
- Enter a name for the exception: E.g. Enterprise_Admin
- Enter the port number for the Campaign Administration,
the default is port 82
- Ensure radio button is set to TCP
- Click OK
Repeat for the Campaign Enterprise click through/opened
email tracking function, the default port is 81.

Click OK > OK to save your firewall configuration
and test your software by opening a web browser
and pointing to the appropriate port. E.g. http://(name
or IP):82
